Cash For Clunkers or Cash For Guzzlers?

It is very late.  Actually it is Wednesday, May 6th at 3:00 am and I am writing about Car Dealer Marketing Strategies.  I’m writing this post because I wonder how many dealers have thought about how they will prepare for the potential demand if a bill is passed that would give consumers cash to buy a fuel efficient car?

Cash For Guzzlers

According to Reuters, President Obama and a select group of Democratic lawmakers have  reached an agreement on a legislative proposal that was drafted to stimulate auto sales in the United States.  Recently, automotive data suggest that car sales in the United States has fallen to near 30-year lows.

The proposed automotive incentive bill, drafted by members of the House of Representatives would grant  new car purchasing vouchers worth up to $4,500 for consumers who will replace their less fuel efficient vehicles for models that get better gas mileage.

The goal of the “Cash For Guzzler” Bill also referred to as “cash for clunkers” legislation is to sell over 1 million vehicles.

“By stimulating consumer demand for new vehicles, this proposal will directly benefit domestic autoworkers and automotive manufacturers, which have arguably been hardest hit by the current economic downturn,” said Rep. John Dingell, a Michigan Democrat and staunch industry ally.
